About the role

The Senior Commercial Analyst is responsible for the management of end-to-end processes of complex major financial transactions including the calculation, reconciliation and settlement of contracts. This role will focus on the building of operational processes across business units to enable the growth in Corporate PPA and asset linked retail contracts.

This role will work closely with AGL’s Retail C&I team, Integrated Energy’ Contract Originations team, Market Traders, Legal, Finance, Market Reconciliations, and Treasury teams to ensure the accuracy and timely settlement of contractual obligations including all necessary reporting requirements.
This position also has an important role in understanding the key commercial terms and conditions of key contracts, with the skills to understand complex derivative contracts and the contracts’ associated commerciality.
 

What you’ll be doing

  • Interpret complex wholesale contract terms and conditions and develop financial settlements models for new bespoke contracts executed by Integrated Energy Contract Originations team
  • Continuously maintain and improve existing models to calculate and reconcile major contracts with significant value including routine invoicing and settlement, any dispute resolution and reporting of settlement data in key financial systems
  • Perform ad hoc modelling to assist with queries from internal stakeholders and provide settlements expertise in consultation during contracts negotiations
  • Perform cash flow forecasting for Integrated Energy and work closely with Treasury to manage short-term cash flow
  • Optimise AGL’s cash position via management of AEMO prudential requirements and modelling of future exposure
  • Manage relationships and resolve disputes with external counterparties to ensure accuracy and timeliness of contract obligations
  • Establish robust management of new renewable schemes’ requirements
  • Critically challenge the settlements activities, initiatives and lead the continuous process improvement

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field (CPA qualification, desired)

  • Relevant experience in energy settlements or similar functions in complex operations is preferred but not essential

  • Financial modelling experience with knowledge in using SQL and VBA to extract and manipulate data from databases

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to synthesise information from a variety of sources and present it in a form appropriate to the audience (internal and external)

  • Strong commercial acumen to interpret and understand complex contracts

  • Reliable; excellent attention to detail; high level of personal pride in work; excellent problem-solving skill

  • Demonstrated interest and a proven track record in continuous process improvement and consistency of work output

  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
