An excellent opportunity is available for a Manager to join the Grant Management Portfolio in the Research Grants and Development Office at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position

The Research Grants and Development Office provides whole of grant lifecycle support to WEHI researchers, senior leaders and professional services teams. This Manager role will contribute to the post-award management of grants and fellowships at WEHI, including establishment of grant agreements, variations, reporting and grant closure. The position will work closely with other professional services teams at the Institute to provide specialist advice on complex awards to ensure compliance with grant management processes and exceptional grant governance. The incumbent will also support the activities of the Grant Management portfolio more broadly and maintain a focus on continuous business improvement.

Selection Criteria

Education/Qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications, ideally postgraduate degree in a science discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or training

  • High level analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated planning and organisational skills and capacity to prioritise and multitask while meeting deadlines

Research Management Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in contract management in government, philanthropic and industry sectors including the ability to prepare, review, negotiate and advise on contracts to ensure excellent corporate and researcher outcomes
  • Experience in assessing and managing legal risks/issues and make recommendations to researchers and professional services staff
  • Track record of partnering with researchers to manage complex research grants
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant funding programs, research funding rules and regulatory framework, and grants management across the grant lifecycle
  • A sound understanding of national and international research funding landscape and how to administer competitive research funding through these funding agencies
  • Experience in managing staff is desirable

Terms of appointment

This position is a fixed-term position for a period of 12 months in a full-time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee (PSE) Level 8 ($114,659 – $124,104). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
